The moisture-proof and waterproof performance of moisture-proof green environmentally friendly particleboard needs to be comprehensively judged based on its moisture-proof design principles and the correlation with environmental standards. 1. Moisture resistance: Targeted protection achieved through formula optimization
Its moisture-proof property mainly depends on the moisture-proof agent (such as melamine resin, paraffin lotion) added in production. These ingredients will attach to the surface of wood chips or fill the gap in the board, forming a "hydrophobic layer", which can effectively resist the moisture in the daily environment (such as the humidity fluctuation in the kitchen and toilet) and the transient contact of a small amount of liquid water (such as splashing and wiping).
Under routine testing (such as 24-hour water absorption thickness expansion rate), the expansion rate of moisture-proof particleboard is usually ≤ 12% (ordinary particleboard is more than 20%), which can meet the moisture-proof needs of non direct water immersion scenarios such as wardrobes, cabinets, indoor partitions, etc., and avoid deformation and mold caused by moisture.
Some high-grade moisture-proof products (such as adding more moisture-proof agents or using special adhesives) can withstand short-term soaking for 48 hours and are suitable for environments with higher humidity (such as the outside of bathroom cabinets and balcony storage cabinets).
2. Waterproof performance: There are clear limitations and it cannot be soaked in water for a long time
Please note that 'moisture resistance ≠ waterproofing':
The core layer is made of wood shavings. Even if moisture-proof agents are added, if soaked in water for a long time (such as more than 72 hours), the moisture will still slowly penetrate the core layer, causing the board to expand, layer, and decrease in strength. Therefore, it cannot be used in scenarios where it comes into direct contact with water (such as washbasin countertops or areas under sinks that come into direct contact with water).
Compared with specialized waterproof boards such as waterproof plywood and PVC boards, its waterproof performance is weaker. The core difference lies in the fact that "moisture resistance is to resist moisture erosion, while waterproofing is to block moisture penetration", and the protection logic of the two is different.
3. Relationship between environmental friendliness and moisture resistance: no conflict, both must meet the standards
Green and environmentally friendly "mainly refers to the formaldehyde emission of the board meeting relevant standards (such as the E0 and E1 levels in China's GB 18583-2008" Hazardous Substances in Adhesives for Interior Decoration Materials "and GB/T 4897-2015" Particle Board "), without direct conflict with moisture resistance performance. Legitimate products will meet both environmental standards and moisture resistance indicators, that is, by optimizing the adhesive formula (low formaldehyde adhesive) and adding moisture resistant agents, the dual properties of "environmental protection+moisture resistance" can be achieved, rather than sacrificing one performance for another.
